How does Epiphora work?
The Epiphora Method is a self-practice method. You learn the exercises within 4 weeks and integrate them into your daily routine. The Epiphora Method is accessible and practical. The exercises consist of subtle movements of the body combined with specific breathing techniques. Most movements are performed while lying down.
The Epiphora Method supports the body’s natural ability to restore itself. The exercises encourage gentle drainage, help the body relax, and restore vitality and resilience.
Epiphora Method
What to expect?
- The method supports the body’s natural drainage processes, stimulating blood circulation, lymphatic flow, and cerebrospinal fluid movement
- The method works on the nervous system. By inviting calm into the body, it shifts from survival mode to a state where recovery can begin.
- The method supports the respiratory system. When oxygen and CO₂ are optimally utilized, it enhances the resilience of your cells.
- The method helps you reconnect with your body, making it feel safe to sense and inhabit it again.
The exercises consist of a series of subtle movements performed while lying in bed, such as gently moving the head or ankles. Breathing is an essential component when practicing these exercises.
The exercises require very little effort and can be adapted to the client’s abilities.
The Epiphora Method often brings improvements within 2 to 4 weeks. Every body is different, and with deeper issues the method needs to be introduced more gradually. Most clients need about three sessions to learn the method properly and make the exercises their own.
It is adviced to do the exercises in the morning and in the evening, just before going to bed or when getting up. Sometimes it is adviced to do the exercises in the afternoon.

I have great confidence in the Epiphora Method because it helped me personally with Long Covid. Since 2022, I have been applying the method in practice.
I know what it’s like to have a body that no longer does what it used to. I was exhausted from all the tinkering with my body and longed for some grip on the unpredictability that Long Covid brings.
By applying the Epiphora Method, I regained resilience, and with it, my zest for life. My body felt safe and calm, allowing recovery to begin.
I now passionately share the method so that you too can regain control over your symptoms and feel at home in your body again.
Epiphora is a gentle, calming method that finally helped me enter the recovery phase after having Covid twice. For a year, I tried all kinds of therapies—occupational therapy, physiotherapy, osteopathy, and psychology. I made small steps, but every time I tried to increase my activity, I relapsed. Afraid I would have to live a low-stimulus life forever, I eventually discovered the Epiphora Method through a tip, and it immediately appealed to me. My osteopath always loosened my head and neck to ease headaches—now, with this method, I could do that myself.
The first session felt like a warm bath. Simone is a wonderful person—highly skilled and also an expert by experience. She understood me with just a few words, and I finally felt heard and understood.
The exercises are easy to do and gave me immediate results. I feel so much better in my own skin. My headaches sometimes disappear for short periods, my skin has calmed down, and I can handle stimuli much better. My fitness has improved, and I sleep deeper and more peacefully.
I still have a way to go, but now I can finally say I’m recovering instead of relapsing.
I heard through a friend that the Epiphora Method had helped her recover from Long Covid. That’s how I found Simone. After just two sessions, I noticed a big improvement in my head: fewer sensory overload issues, less ‘foggy’ feeling. Simone herself is a wonderful person who radiates calm. Thank you, Simone!
After almost a year with Long Covid, there was hardly any progress. The few hours I worked, I felt like a zombie; even simple household chores caused setbacks, and I was getting nowhere. There was constant restlessness and panic, and the outlook was bleak at best. With the Epiphora Method, I gradually found more calm—both physically and mentally. After a week, I noticed a small difference. Four months later, I can work again, mow the lawn without stopping, or simply go for a bike ride. I still hit limits quickly and have a way to go, but this is already a huge win. Thanks to Simone for her patient, attentive guidance and the simple exercises I still do almost every morning.
Because Simone had also experienced Long Covid, I felt comfortable learning the method with her. We talked a lot about what it’s like. I gained more than just learning the exercises, I also learned to listen to my body. I felt truly supported.
I learned the Epiphora Method online. After two weeks, I suddenly noticed I could have a chat on the street without getting tired. I could also stand on my feet longer and felt more energetic. The exercises give me a sense of calm—I enjoy doing them. A few months later, I’m now gradually returning to work! I was out for more than a year and I’m so happy to be moving forward again.

Yes, it is recommended to do at least three sessions. This way, you get the most out of the method for your recovery.
Unfortunately that is not possible.
The Epiphora Method achieves positive results based on a hypothesis and is currently still under scientific investigation. This does not mean the method cannot be effective. For example, the effectiveness of dry needling has not yet been scientifically proven, yet it is successfully applied in many physiotherapy practices. At the moment I only offer personal sessions.
Groupworkshops of Epiphora are given by other professionals, but it is not adviced to do so when you have health issues. Are you recovering from post-covid, I advice you to do an individual trajectory.
Most clients experience results between 2 to 4 weeks. You want to practice the method for at least a month to see results.
Hans Timmerman is the founder of the method. He is a physiotherapist, breathing therapist, and haptonomist.
The Epiphora Method is carefully structured and consists of different components, each addressing dysautonomia in the body in its own way. This combination of techniques makes the Epiphora Method so effective.
The Epiphora Method makes use of:
- Exercises that mobilize the fascia and thereby influence nerves, blood vessels, and lymphatic flow.
- Through high cervical mobilization via the myodural bridge, there is also an effect on the meninges and, consequently, on cerebrospinal fluid flow
- The method also incorporates breathing physiology. Applied breathing physiology improves the perfusion of oxygen all the way to the brain cells.
Maybe these words are appearing as one grey mass to you. No worries! In this blog I tried to make a compact and easy to read summary.
